new music + bon iver concert

so much new music i love right now. SO much.
which means i just have to share.
enjoy!

{ps- "h.r." means honorable mention. so listen to those too}

regina spektor: all the rowboats

edward sharpe & the magnetic zeroes: man on fire

florence + the machine: breath of life

the staves: the motherlode
{h.r.: mexico, icarus}

the lumineers: big parade

kimbra: sally i can see you

santigold: the keepers

the civil wars: i've got this friend

{and because i can't find them on youtube you'll need to follow the link to listen to these next two. but they are both reallyyyy good, so do it.}

glacier face: fahrenheit

deep sea diver: weekend wars

fenster: oh canyon

m. ward: primitive girl

feist: comfort me

and...
i also went to a bon iver concert in miami beach last wednesday with marley and it was wonderful. justin vernon has a magical voice and is funny as well which is always great. and in between all the cascades of falcetto i got glimpses into the lower register of his voice, which i have to admit i absolutely loved {and wish we got to hear more often}. "creature fear" was mysterious and wonderfully strange, each and ebb and flow of the chorus swept me away into a dynamic and foggy musical dream. "re:stacks" was sung alone, with honesty and vulnerability, a nakedness of voice and emotion. and "skinny love" focused on the vocals, each member rising harmoniously above the enchanting daze of previous songs that were left lingering, to give the audience a soulful and achey release.

the aesthetics were one of my favorite parts. they had little lights that twinkled with life for each of the crescendos and decrescrendos, fading in and out to create the perfect mood. and with each heart-trembling beat of the drums a flash of drama and blinding light. not to mention the amount of instruments on stage. nine musicians were playing {my preference being for the violinist of course} to create a complexity sound and feeling, pulling your ear in every direction only to wander off, following each trail of music in order to find the source. bon iver truly was a great concert.
the staves {as listed above} were the opening act, a perfect pairing. plus marley is my music twin, so the conversation to and from was also fantastic.

favorite line of the night from justin:

"there are some bon iver {bahn eye-ver} comment cards out there you can fill out.
*gasps, whispers, and 'i told you so's from the audience*
yes, it's pronounced bon iver {bone ee-vair}, but they are bon iver {bahn eye-ver} comment cards."

deep into the mountain sound.

the band "of monsters and men" has been setting my soul swooning for the past week. any cocktail of female and male vocals with folk influences will do that to me.
not to mention i am also infatuated with monsters right now.
{and how great is the music video for their song "little talks"?!}

also check out "your bones"

and "king and lionheart"

then pre-listen to their entire new album "my head is an animal" via NPR.
{i also recommend "mountain sound" and "dirty paws"}.
really just go listen to all of it right now.

{ps- iceland. i need to visit that beautiful country. it produces great music, like bjork & of monsters and men. plus, icelanders believe in elves. two good reasons, when i only needed one. i'm sold.}

NEW // MUSIC

so some of this is new to the world and some of this is new to me. but either way i'm addicted.
{keep reading below so you can give me advice}

also i am going to try and actually post things that take more than 5 minutes to do (like posting youtube videos). i just got some of my intaglio prints out of my car that i should be posting soon. plus i have a whole list that i have been putting off for no good reason. plus plus it is fall which means that i will drive up to the canyon and capture some of the beauty before it's all gone. i have been a bit absent-minded lately and i am going to try and gain control of my life and actually get organized...wish me luck? oh yeah and i have to register for classes in 10 days.

ps- if you are actually reading this and you are not my parents, i would like your opinion (because we know that i am indecisive).
for summer: should i go volunteer in a country in africa OR should i do a south pacific recreational study abroad in australia, new zealand, and fiji??
(africa is cheaper but the study abroad is probably once in a life time)...dilemmas. and i have 10 days to figure it out soooo help me and leave a comment! that means you amber, audrey, and friends.

posts still in progress... {+ I FOLLOW RIVERS by LYKKE LI}

so remember how i said that i would catch up on some posts? yeah well i've been a bit busy. i can't wait to show all of you pictures of my trip to burma {and my last days in thailand} so once school settles down and i find some more time, i will share! i mean i haven't even finished unpacking or started decorating my new room yet...it looks so sad at the moment.
here is a sneak peak:
this should be a monk since he is wearing orange but i swear it looks like a woman...but either way when i took the picture he/she got really embarrassed and started laughing, it was really sweet.
this little boy was so cute. and i will tell you more about what is on his face in a later post.

and in the meantime listen to my lastest obsession:

PLAYLIST {the italian edition}

When I go to new places I make a playlist on itunes for them, especially for Italy because we were on trains so much. I couldn't possibly put all the songs I chose on here but I will put some of my favorites that the rest of it revolved around. Also if you were wondering why the previous posts were titled "Postcards from Italy" it is based of a song from Beirut titled the same exact thing. Sit back and enjoy the music I listened to as a train took me through the country side of Italy from Rome to Florence and finally to Venice.

CRASH YEARS || THE NEW P*GRAPHERS

so i am obsessed with this song ("crash years" from the album "together") currently and it is what i based my playlist off of while in france. the name of the band is misleading, and does not mean what you think it means. it has nothing to do with the music, which is clean. SO ENJOY! and i love the album art as well. also, i saw them in concert last summer and they were great, that is all.

children playing, stars, and great typography- what is not to love?
